Venezuela: Pandemic and Foreign Intervention in a Collapsing Narcostate

 I am sharing with you my report just published by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).  The work examines the unfolding crisis in Venezuela, including the impact of COVID-19 in compounding the grave economic and political crisis in the country; the role of criminal activities in sustaining the regime, and the role of outside actors including Cuba, Russia, China, Iran and Turkey.  It concludes that, despite the efforts of interim President Guaido and his team, a return to democracy is increasingly less realistic than continued degeneration of the territory into lawlessness and chaos, creating grave security and socioeconomic burdens for Venezuela's neighbors and the region.
