China didn’t take American jobs. These days that verdict is controversial. Donald Trump has made a centerpiece of his campaign accusations that China, along with Japan, Mexico, and a few others, is primarily responsible for the plunge in American manufacturing jobs since 2000. And there are contentions by a growing minority of economists that would seem back this charge, at least in part. I thought it important to challenge the view.
